- Immediately after an abortion, Deanna Bell's heart stopped beating. The abortion staff's first futile resuscitive efforts were documented about an hour later. No effort was made to transport her to a hospital.
- Abortion drugs were given to Chanelle Bryant in a manner which violated guidelines established by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She suffered terrible pain four days afterwards, and then she died.
- Some of the tissue from Patricia Chacon's second trimester fetus remained in her uterus after her abortion, so a surgery was performed by an FPA abortionist to remove the remaining tissue. According to Patricia's parents, she bled to death while left unattended.
- Laniece Dorsey lapsed into a fatal coma during an abortion, apparently due to the anesthesia.
Why did these women die?
According to various court documents filed against Family Planning Associates (and/or their abortionists), here are a few of the ways in which FPA has been accused of compromising the health of women:
- hiring unqualified staff
- medical procedures performed by non-physicians
- inadequate facilities and procedures for handling problems
- faulty diagnoses (such as negligent failure to diagnose ectopic pregnancy)
- failure to transport patients to hospitals, or fatal delays
- off-label drug administration (violating governmental medical care standards)
- general negligence (such as allowing patients to bleed to death)
- physicians failed to examine patients prior to surgery
- lack of adequate resuscitation equipment
- administering overdose of anesthesia
- cervical lacerations caused by haste and/or negligence
- lack of proper informed consent
- failure to properly monitor women during and/or after abortion
- creating fraudulent medical charts to cover up true events
- failure to completely remove fetus
- executing an abortion on non-pregnant woman
- Josefina Garcia was pregnant, but the baby was not in her womb. She bled to death because the abortion staff apparently failed to inform her that she needed to be in a hospital for surgery to remove the tubal pregnancy.
- During an abortion, Denise Holmes suffered an amniotic fluid embolism. She was pronounced dead by the abortionist.
- Susan Levy died from an infection because fetal tissue was not removed during her abortion.
- Christine Mora apparently suffered cervical lacerations (cuts) during a rushed 17 week abortion procedure. Christine died when amniotic fluid entered her bloodstream, apparently through the cuts.
- According to Kimberly Neil's family, FPA staff failed to monitor Kimberly during an abortion and failed to treat her properly when she stopped breathing and slipped into a coma.
- Joyce Ortenzio suffered a severe infection because an FPA abortionist failed to remove all of the fetal body parts from her womb. She died from septic shock.
- During an abortion Mary Pena was cut deeply by sharp abortion tools or fetal bones being removed from her womb. Because her cervix was bleeding so heavily from these cuts, a hysterectomy was attempted, but she died on the operating table.
- Tami Suematsu's heart stopped beating after her abortion, because an asthma attack had resulted in respiratory failure. According to a lawsuit, when the FPA abortionist was notified that Tami stopped breathing, he finished his other abortions while she lay dying.
